It takes a village, but someone has to lead the village. Thanks Chip for
all you do, including keeping the village updated. I like the fact that Coach Pete has some discretion with the funds raised. Go Hokies!

Anyone got update on commitments we are bringing in this fall?
Seems like I read somewhere that there have been some decommitments. Just wondering what the current incoming class looks like.

Thanks Chip. I've often wondered about situations like this. I hope all
young college athletes understand that there are no guarantees once they enter the portal. Go Hokies!

Wow, 2nd inning of WVU game exciting! Have to admit, fun to watch.
WV runner stole 3B, then a double steal, then two home runs! They have Cal-Poly rattled after Cal-Poly went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first. Wish baseball could be this exciting in Blacksburg. Go Hokies! Go 'Eers!

Guess I'm pulling for WVU (ducks). Their program is getting better. Wish
ours could. I still say if WVU can do it, VT ought to be able to as well.

Well, personally I think VT batters helped him out by swinging at a LOT
of offspeed pitched that were low and away, and out of the zone. It was like they couldn't help themselves.

Thank you Chip for being such a great ambassador for VT softball.
And thanks for keeping everyone up to date on fundraising. I know there has to be a lot of mail opening, accounting, record keeping, etc., that takes time and effort on your part. Thank you. Look forward to fall ball and spring 2027.Go Hokies!

Well I was in the 'burg today visiting family so I missed the game;
however, I was able to listen to it on way home via rhe ESPN app. After getting home and scrolling through several pages of the baseball board, you guys held it together fairly well. In fact much better than I did driving down I-81. REALLY bad way to end a season, but kudos to the team (players) for improving as the season progressed. Do you all think there is an annual season-ending meeting with coaching staff by AD? If so, I'd love
to be a fly on the wall. Go Hokies, stay together and come back stronger next year.

Hard to muster offense when team had 14 Ks and
continually swung right by 78 mph change ups and breaking balls. Often the change up was well outside the strike zone, but they hacked at it anyway. I thought it was a pretty poor effort to make adjustments in their approach at the plate as game progressed.
I have to give Cal Poly one thing, they brought in hard throwing pitchers after the starter was removed, and VT didn't have time to adjust after 7 innings of 78 mph change ups. I suspected it was over after the first reliever's first pitch.
Great opportunity after UCLA lost and they didn't take advantage. Stage just too big I guess.

Agree on the impatience at the plate. Not seeing any adjustments at the
Plate by VT batters. Quite honestly, this should be like batting practice. See a lot of HS pitchers throw harder than this guy is throwing. Lots of off -speed certainly not being handled well by VT batters.

Thanks for all your work and keeping us all in the loop. Go Hokies!

I understand. Already looking forward to fall ball tidbits and info.
Counting on the locals to keep me informed. Meanwhile trying to catch up spring chores I ignored due to following VT softball (and baseball). Only thing that saved me this spring is the fact that my wife follows and watches VT softball too. Go Hokies!

Watched game after getting home from work last night. Game was in 3rd
inning when I turned it on. Probably good that I didn't see the beginning.
Didn't realize what an impact Eisenreich had until reviewing the box score. 4.2 innings of 1 run ball, 6 K's, 2 BBs. He apparently really stopped the bleeding. Props to him coming in that situation and accomplishing what he did. And props to the offense! Lot of position players hitting at or over .300. All one has to do is go back to the first half of the season and realize what a significant improvement has taken place offensively. Wow! I would rather be peaking now than March or April.
Finally props to the young players who have come on at the end of the year. Testament to hard work and desire to improve. Last, shout-out to home-town boy Ethan Gibson. Proud of him amd his work ethic and perseverance. Go Hokies!

Couldn't agree more. This team over-achieved, and for that I am
happy and thankful. We all need to realize that staff and team are consistently good, not good every now-and-then. I personally think that the core group coming back will be really good next season. There will be some graduation slots to fill, but I trust Coach Pete and staff to get it done. They continue to help players improve, year to year. We just all need to continue to support them and continue to help elevate the program. Go Hokies!

I'll miss watching VT softball. Wife told me I now have to catch up my
projects and chores. In other words, more fun watching VT softball than working on list of chores. Great run while it lasted. Thanks ladies -- till next spring.

Agree. LSU pitched three different pitchers in three games and all were
effective. Monticelli shut us down tÃ˛day on 5 hits in a very efficient outing. Numbers 3 - 8 in our order collectively went 1 for 21. Stat line for Monticelli:
Batters faced: 26
Runs 2 (1 earned)
Ks - 2
BBs - 0
Pitches - 96 (62 for strikes, 64%)
Fly ball outs-15
Ground ball outs-4
On the flip side, LSU had 12 hits, 6 ER, and 40 batters went to the plate. VT pitchers only gave up 3 BBs, with 2 Ks, but 146 total pitches. Of those 146 pitches 81 went for strikes.
Proud of this team though. Just waan't their weekend. Looking forward to the future though. Go Hokies.

Agree. Easy to root for them. I'll probably have VT softball withdrawal
symptoms the next few days/weeks. Y'all just look over me. Can't wait for off-season news and fall ball. Counting on Chip to keep us informed. Go Hokies!

How many LH pitchers do you know that consistentky hit 70 + MPH? IMHO
she has a ton of potential and always has. Just got to keep on grinding. She is all Hokie and I'm 100% behind her. She hasn't gotten a lot of calls in this game on her "close" pitches. BUT she has as much potential as any pitcher we have. Her control gets away from her at times, and I personally think that is a mental thing. She is best when ump has a liberal strike zone, but she just isn't getting calls on close pitches this weekend. When Mazz can consistently nip the corners and reign in that change up and rise ball, look out! That change is a relatively new pitch for her, so she will continue to develop it and improve it.
She struggled today after the confusion on the RF foul ball no one caught. That ball was catchable, and should have been caught for the out. It wasn't. That batter went on to walk and score. Mazz just needs to put stuff like that behind her, and focus on what's ahead of her. Realize too, coaches are calling every pitch and making decisions on when to pull and insert pitchers. For example, Bree ran out of gas long before they pulled her and it was obvious. I don't see anyone calling for her to not pitch next year. But she needs to get stronger, and mentally tougher, and she will, just like Mazz will.
We can all improve, and should always be willing to work to improve. I'm confident in Mazz being willing to work on her craft.

Bree out of gas, T3 and she was when coach came out, but they left her in.
Silly saving arms for the next game, when we are losing this game and giving LSU EASY at bats.

VT pitching better against Akron than earlier against LSU.
But pitchers still throwing a lot of pitches. 91/163 strikes to total pitches ratio for 55.8% compared to 46% against LSU. 6 BBs, 10 Ks versus Akron.
Versus Akron
Mazz 41/75 = 54.6%
Carrico 22/39 = 56.4%
Layton 28/49 = 57.1%
By contrast, Akron pitcher threw 117 pitches, and 72 of those were strikes or 61.5%, only 2 BBs but only 1 K. She threw 252 pitches today. Wow.

Most bizzare softball game I've ever watched. I didn't give VT much chance
to win going into the 7th. But, miraculously, they pulled it out. MAYBE this will give them a jump starr for tomorrow. Go Hokies. Beat LSU.
